Introducing Island Reach, the UK’s original Zero Carbon Smart Homes. The first of their kind, these seven luxury homes are spacious, fully automated and modern, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the beautiful Cornish coast. With all units sold off-plan in 2015, Island Reach stands as a testament to sustainable living, producing its own energy from the sun with powerful photovoltaic panels integrated into the roof.

Island Reach fuses high-spec housing with ultimate energy efficiency. The indulgent bamboo carpets and douglas fir flooring add a touch of elegance to the interior, laid over an underlay of recycled plastic bottles and recycled carpet for maximum, sustainable insulation. Bright, open spaces throughout, backdropped by breathtaking views of the Atlantic, are what make Island Reach such a refreshing and peaceful escape.

With air source heat pumps heating the structure of the building and integrated solar panels powering appliances, there’s nothing left for you to worry about. Our app, Vesta, can tell you exactly how much energy you’re both producing and using at any given moment and allows you to manage your output for maximum energy efficiency.

From motion sensors illuminating your way through the house to zonal heating systems heating only the rooms in use, Island Reach is designed to work autonomously around you. With Vesta, it’s a perfect pairing: every aspect of the home is intelligently automated and controllable remotely, so you can sit back and relax.

One day, all homes will be built like this. Till then, there’s Island Reach.

Our contemporary Towan Heights homes, winner of the National Federation of Builders' Eco Award 2015, have been built using low-carbon, sustainable materials. Not only are they insulated almost perfectly, but they also generate an excess of clean energy from the sun - the height of clean living. With a variety of 3 to 4 bedrooms over four floors, every feature of these Zero Carbon Smart Homes can be controlled remotely, letting you live in harmony with your environment. Boasting an enviable location overlooking Newquay’s Towan Beach, all 14 units of Towan Heights were sold off-plan in 2015.

We’ve put a lot of thought into every detail of Towan Heights, from the dynamic use of space to the maximising of natural light. With a bright and modern, super-insulated interior, the facade is made up of a striking contrast of burnt larch and red cedar, sustainably sourced similar to the sleek, engineered oak flooring in all of the open-plan living spaces - as well as the materials used to create welcoming communal spaces within the development.

From the smaller features, like electric vehicle charging points for every home, to the large-scale twists, such as putting the living areas on the top floors for maximum energy efficiency, we’ve strived to put sustainable energy usage at the forefront of our designs. With zonal and underfloor heating, the homes can use as little power as possible to heat only the rooms you need. And where does this energy come from? Generated by each home’s integrated solar roof, with excess energy directed into the national grid for a profit to the homeowners, or provided by renewables-only energy provider, Ecotricity.

Not only can the heating be controlled remotely with our smartphone app, Vesta, but every other feature of the homes can, too. With state-of-the-art security, PIR sensors in each room are able to autonomously set the house’s alarm in your absence for constant peace of mind - and if there’s someone at the door? You can see who it is without even getting up: simply view the live camera feed from Vesta and open the door from anywhere with the click of a button.

The only question remaining is, why isn’t everyone building homes like Towan Heights?

Hilgrove Mews, our first Zero Carbon Smart Home community, is pushing the boundaries of sustainable living. Set amongst an oasis of rich green landscaping just moments from Tolcarne Beach in Newquay, this revolutionary development will offer a mixture of 46 contemporary apartments, townhouses and semi-detached dwellings once complete, with construction having commenced as of Spring 2016.

Within these innovative Smart Homes, full home automation combined with super insulation create an efficient living space like no other, wasting neither energy nor space. From the soft, recycled plastic bottle carpet, heated from below, right up to the EcoLED lighting in the ceiling that floods the homes with controllable, ambient light, every aspect of Hilgrove Mews is hand picked for ultimate comfort, convenience and sustainability.

Here at Verto Homes, we’re committed to minimising our impact on the environment. These buildings uphold that promise, putting emphasis on sustainable material choices and energy efficiency. On the outside: fully recyclable cedar cladding with low embodied carbon. Hidden inside: mechanical ventilation with heat recovery systems, supplying preheated, fresh air, cleverly integrated with ground source heat pumps that quietly absorb ambient heat from the ground and move it inside, all without consuming any fossil fuels and powered by an integrated solar roofing system for ultimate self-sufficiency.

Finally, the element that proves these Zero Carbon Smart Homes really are the homes of the future: complete home automation. Every feature listed above and many more can be managed in real time with our app, Vesta, wherever you are in the world. Whether you want to heat the house in advance of your arrival or simply want to close the blinds without leaving the comfort of your bed, you can do it with Vesta. And, by automating the processes, your Smart Home can do it for you, every day.
